I am off on another travel adventure! Last April it was the Camino de Santiago in Spain. This April/May I am headed to Costa Rica on a wellness/adventure tour.

One of the joys of group travel is connecting with friends, old and new. And one of the joys of this particular trip is that I am reuniting with my very best friend from childhood.

Amy and I learned to swim together ... first on the synchronized swimming team, where we were often paired together for duets. One little brunette, one little blond. We had to wear kind of weird swim costumes and (bane of my young existence) had to put our hair up on our head in a bun, often covered by a homemade tiny cap. My hair never cooperated, so my mom had to grease it up with vaseline and try to hold it in place with approximately 1000 bobby pins. As you can see from the photo above, no amount of bobby pins could keep my hair up.

Amy and I transferred from synchronized swimming to competitive swimming on the exact same day. I think we were about 9 or 10 and we swam together through our high school careers, Amy at West High, me at East. We were friendly rivals. For the city team, we swam on the same relays year after year after year. We spent hours and hours at swim practice together. I would guess we have swum almost 500,000 yards together? Or more! We made out with boys in the back of swim team buses, we smoked cigarettes in her bedroom, we played kick-the-can 'til way past our bedtime. She knows all the dirt on me.

Through the wonders of social media, we reconnected and realized we share a love of travel and a love of a mutual friend, Laura, who is an adventure travel guide and guru.

Laura told us about this adventure trip to Costa Rica and Amy and I both jumped in together!

We land in Costa Rica today and we can't wait to relive old memories as well as make new ones.

One thing I know for sure, you will find the two of us in the water together, no little homemade caps or vaseline or bobby pins to be found!
