Featured: The weariness of constant improvement ...

I conquered entropy last week and jump-started my old routine of rising before dawn and hitting a 5:45 AM spin class at our local gym. Kudos, right? Afterward, I took some time to stretch and strengthen my freshly battered muscles and I saw that someone had written a supposed-to-be-inspirational statement on a chalkboard in the […]

God is in every person's life ...

I know many friends who live in much angst over someone they love who seems to be making a complete disaster of their lives. This is a little gift for you from Pope Francis: "God is in every person’s life ... Even if the life of a person has been a disaster, even if it […]

No such thing as the right place ...

I love what Henri Nouwen has to say about calling, and life choices. We Western Christians get so caught up in trying to figure out God's will for our lives ... who we should marry, where we should live, what we should study, what our career path should be. All the while, God is saying, […]

The greatest single antidote ...

"The greatest single antidote to violence is conversation." (Rabbi Jonathan Sacks)

A mental breath of fresh air.

There is sometimes a perception that because I have been a pastor for the past 20 years and have been counseling at least as long, that I have my whole life together.

But honestly, that’s not always the case.

I struggle with many of the same things that you do, and that’s one of the reasons I write Alice at Dawn. So that we can tackle those questions together.
